¯ The Literary Ladies Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. today at the Marietta Branch Library, 615 Fifth St., and discuss “The Gold in These Hills” by Joanne Bischof. The event is for ages 18 and older. ¯ Matamoras #374, Free and Accepted Masons, will hold a community breakfast buffet 8-11 a.m. Saturday at 301 Main Street, New Matamoras. The public is invited to attend. Carry out is available. The suggested donation is $7 per person. Profits from the breakfast support Grand Lodge of Ohio Charitable Foundation, the Ohio Masonic Home, and local charities.

¯ Make your own GORP with Cheerios, Raisins, M&Ms, Gummy Bears, and Peanuts from 11-1 p.m. Saturday at the Marietta Branch Library 515 Fifth Street. Fill a container tub with your choices and enjoy. ¯ From 3-5 p.m., on Sept. 5 and 12, at the Marietta Branch Library create DIY scratch art paper with a few simple supplies. Then scratch to watch a rainbow of colors emerge. This is a passive program for all ages. No registration is required. All materials will be supplied. This event will take place at the Marietta Branch Library located at 615 Fifth Street, Marietta. ¯ St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is hosting a free Community Meal from 5-6 p.m on Sept. 5. The meal is dine-in or take-out. Those who wish a take-out meal must call the church office at 740-373-5132 before noon on Sept. 4. Give your name and the number of meals requested. A quota may be in effect. Take-out meals will be available only to those who call in advance.

¯ The Barlow Friends of the Library Monthly Used Book Sale will be held at 9 a.m.-1 p.m on September 7, in the library basement. The Barlow Branch Library is located at 45 White Oak Professional Center, Vincent, OH.

¯ The Alzheimer’s Family Support Group of Belpre will hold its Spaghetti for a Cause fundraiser at 2-6 p.m. Sept. 9. at Rockland Church, 2300 Washington Blvd. Donations will be accepted for the full dinner. Pre-ordered to-go meals are available by calling 304 482-4602. Donations help provide local services and support research.

¯ The Beverly Lions Club will hold a pancake breakfast from 8-10:30 a.m. Sept. 9 at the Waterford Township Community building in Beverly, behind Rock Box sports store. Cost is $10 for all you can eat, $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Come have two kinds of pancakes, sausage and fruit plus beverage. All funds go toward high school scholarships. ¯ The Right Path for Washington County and the Ely Chapman Education Foundation will sponsor a 5K Wellness Run and Walk at 8 a.m. Sept. 9 in Marietta. Registration is from 6:30-7:30 a.m. Pre-registration for adults is $20 and $10 for children 12 and under. Race-day registration is $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Participants pre-registered by Aug. 21 will be guaranteed a free race T-shirt. The registration form is available on the River City Runners Website calendar page, and interested participants can go to RunSignup.com to register. Awards will be given to the top three males and females in each age group category. For more information about the 5K Wellness Run and Walk, email Gary Williams at [email protected]. All net proceeds will be used to provide services and opportunities for area youth.

¯ Book club will be meeting at 4:30 p.m on September 11, take time to slow down for a minute and enjoy. Bring the book you are currently reading and tell everyone about it. The Library will provide a small drink. This program takes place at the Lock #4 Coffee Shop, located at 123 3rd Street in Beverly. This event is for ages 13 plus. Questions? ¯ Family & Children First will sponsor a fall session of the Strengthening Families 10-14 Program for parents and youth ages 10-14. The parent, youth and family skills-building curriculum builds family strengths, strengthens parenting skills and prevents teen substance abuse and other behavior problems. The seven-week session is free with dinner and child care provided and with transportation assistance. The fall session runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 through Oct. 24 at the Ely Chapman Center in Marietta. For more information and to register, call 740-376-7081. Registration is limited.

¯ Weekly Story Time at the Beverly Branch Library will be held from 8:15 to 9 a.m. on Sept. 13. This event is for children ages 2-6 who are accompanied by an adult. Story time can include stories, crafts, games, music, etc. This Story Time will include a small breakfast snack. Since we are closed at this time, please use the back door. ¯ Learn about the basics of canning at 6 p.m. September 14 at the Beverly Branch Library. Alexus Masterson, from OSU Extension, will talk about the basics and importance of canning. ¯ The Zonta Club of the MOV again will sponsor our Delicates for Dignity Fundraiser. The annual fundraiser runs through the end of October and supports underprivileged girls and women in the community by providing feminine hygiene products, new bras and underwear. Items will be distributed at food pantries, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters and middle and high schools. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 634, Marietta, OH 45750. ¯ The Washington Behavioral Health Board, County Health Department and The Right Path will hold Recovery Walk to celebrate National Recovery Month at 10 a.m. Sept. 16 at Muskingum Park in Marietta. ¯ The Marietta High School classes of 1960 and 1961 will hold an all-classmates reunion on Sept. 15-16. At halftime Friday evening, Marietta High will recognize its undefeated football team. An informal evening of food and friendship will be held Saturday. For reservations, call 740-373-3214.

Ø Ernie Couch and Revival will hold a gospel music concert at 6 p.m. Sept. 16 at Stephenson United Methodist Church, 805 Liberty St., Parkersburg. Free admission, but donations accepted.

Ø I’m With the Banned at the Beverly Branch Library at 4:30 p.m. on September 18. Each month a new challenged book will be chosen for discussion. We will discuss why someone says they need to be removed and why others say they need to stay. The first one up is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. WARNING! The books chosen for this book discussion have content that someone has found disagreeable. Copies are available at the library and using the Libby app. This event is for ages 18 plus Questions? Ø The Books and Brews Book Club meets once a month to discuss a book that has fermentation in it (alcohol). At 6 p.m. on September 20 we will be discussing “The Sisters of Glass Ferry” by Kim M. Richardson. We will be meeting at Over the Moon Pub and Pizza, 170 Front Street, in the bar area at the back. Non-Alcoholic drinks will be provided. Alcoholic brews will be purchased by attendees. Ø Stop in and make Granny Squares using a Crochet Circle at 6 p.m. starting on September 21. We will collect the Granny Squares to make a blanket. The blanket will then be donated to a worthy cause. Hooks and yarn will be provided. Don’t know how to crochet, we will teach you. CAL will meet every third Thursday at 6 p.m. No registration is required. Ø At 6 p.m. on September 26 meet Sara Bir. Sara Bir is a chef, writer and plant nerd who aims to get people outside and look at their everyday surroundings in a completely new way. Her book “The Fruit Forager’s Companion” (Chelsea Green, 2018) won the 2019 Reference and Technical Cookbook Award from the International Association of Culinary Professionals. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, she teaches classes for home cooks and her writing has been featured in Saveur, Lucky Peach, Serious Eats, Modern Farmer, Best Food Writing 2014 and two Full Grown People anthologies. She enjoys plant spotting around her neighborhood in Marietta, Ohio and skates with her local roller derby team as Carrion the Librarian. Ø St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, will be having its 20th Annual Community Give-Away Day on Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The congregation will be donating slightly used items to be given away for free to those in the community in need. Items include toys, household goods, clothes, books, shoes, etc. Everyone is welcome! The church is located at 401 Scammel Street, Marietta.

Ø It’s back! The Marietta Branch Library Puzzle Exchange is back from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on September 30. Patrons are asked to drop off puzzles at the library’s main desk. Puzzle pieces must be separated into zippered bags of 100 pieces and there must not be any missing pieces. Puzzles with missing pieces will be donated to the free table. Each person will receive one voucher per each puzzle accepted. The exchange will take place in the meeting room and patrons can choose from the puzzle collection. Patrons are permitted to take puzzles equal to the amount recorded of how many they donated. Have questions or want to drop off puzzles? Ø The Marietta Civitan Club will be holding a Golf Scramble fundraiser on at 9 a.m. on Oct. 7. at Marietta Country Club. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Team entry is $300.00. Men’s, Women’s or mixed teams are welcome! Monies raised go toward local scholarships and youth projects. Ø Found & Favored Ministries will present “The Story Tour” at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Marietta High School. The show is a one-night musical journey featuring the hope-filled music and ministry of the Allan Scott Band. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to thestorytour.org.

Ø A faith-based cancer support group will meet at noon on the second Mondays of the month at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave.

Ø A men’s breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. on the first Tuesdays of the month at the O’Neill Center. Breakfast is free, but donations will be accepted.

Ø A free community meal will be held 11:30-12:30 p.m. fourth Tuesdays of the month at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta. Pickup only. Ø The 1955 graduating class of Marietta High School will meet at 11:30 a.m. the second Wednesdays of the month at the Harmar Tavern until further notice. All classmates and friends are welcome.

Ø Children ages 3 to 6 and their caregivers are invited to Story Hour at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Marietta Branch Library. Ø Pre-school movies are planned at the Marietta Branch Library, 615 Fifth St. The library will show movies for kids ages 2-6 at 3 p.m. Thursdays. Movies will last no longer than 30 minutes. Family Movie Afternoon is every 4-5:30 p.m. Thursdays. All movies are rated G or PG and will run no longer than 100 minutes. Open to all ages. Those under 7 must have a caregiver attend with them. Ø Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St., Marietta, will offer a free takeout meal from 11:30-12:30 p.m. the first Fridays of the month. All are welcome.

Ø Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, offers worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Adult Sunday school class is at 9:15 a.m. Coffee, light refreshments and fellowship available. A weekly adult Bible study with Pastor Doug Thompson will be held 10 a.m. Wednesdays and 6 p.m. Sundays. All are welcome.

Ø The Alzheimer’s Association support group meetings in the area include: Marietta Support Group, 10-11:30 a.m. first Fridays at the O’Neill Center, 333 Fourth St. Facilitator is Krissy Kearns, 937-974-2387; Belpre Chamber of Commerce, 1-2:40 p.m. second Mondays at 713 Park Drive. Facilitator is Susie Casto.

Ø The O’Neill Center will hold Mani/pedis with appointments starting at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Cost is $16 for manicure and $33 for pedicure. Call the O’Neill Center for appointments.

Ø TOPS 399, Marietta, meets 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the First Church of the Nazarene. Weigh-in is between 5:30 and 6 p.m. Visitors are welcome and the first meeting is free. Call Cindy at 740-629-2957 for details.

Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

Ø The Ohio Department of Development and Washington-Morgan Community Action will launch the Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program to help income-eligible Ohioans with paying an electric bill or assistance paying for an air-conditioning unit, fans or central air conditioning repairs. The program runs until Sep. 30.

Ø Zumba classes will be held 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Monday at the O’Neill Center. The cost is $5 per class or $25 for six classes. All ages welcome. For more information, call 740-373-3914.

Ø The O’Neill Center in Marietta will hold bingo at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays. No cost at the door to play 20 games and it is a nickel per card per game. Seating is limited. The O’Neill Center will hold: a free gentle yoga class at 10 a.m. Tuesdays; a bridge game at 1 p.m. Tuesdays; a euchre game at 1 p.m. Wednesdays; hand and foot cards at 1 p.m. chair volleyball at 9 a.m. Wednesdays, except the second Wednesday of the month. Free afternoon at the movies at 1 p.m. Thursdays. Chair volleyball at 9 a.m. on the first and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

Ø Weekly ballroom dancing classes will be held 7-10 p.m. the second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month at Miller Prosthetics, 2311 Ohio Ave., Parkersburg. Dress is casual. Cost is a $5 per person donation with singles and couples welcome.
