Fab office remodel suits MacBook Pro and massive display [Setups]

When you remodel your home office, isn’t that a great excuse to revamp the ol’ computer setup? That’s what happened with today’s featured rig, which relies on a new MacBook Pro and a Samsung super-ultra-wide display.

But all commenters wanted to talk about was the accent wall and the solid-wood DIY standing desk. And the killer Klipsch audio got some love, too.

Redditor JZAGAO53 (“Zag”) showcased the setup in a post entitled, “DONE! Office Remodel w/Accent Wall, DIY Standing Desk.”

His 14-inch M2 Pro MacBook Pro drives an epic 49-inch Samsung G9 super-ultra-wide QHD gaming display.

But nobody in the comments section seemed to care about the setup’s main hardware.

“Love that wall,” a commenter said, echoing many similar comments.

“Me too,” said another. “Sadly myself would be too [sic] stupid to do this. I would need to get someone to do it for me.”

But Zag reassured them anyone could put up his accent wall, and he backed that up with a time-lapsed video on TikTok.

“Promise you,” he said, “I am not super handy. No nailgun. No miter saw. 1 day of work, a hand saw, and an electric drill and that’s it.”

He added it’s simply a DIY accent wall in a geometric shape. “Plenty of YouTube DIYs, but most use MDF cheap trip from a hardware store, nail gun or screw it into studs, plaster the nail holes, epoxy the edges, and then paint!” he noted.

The other item people commented on most turned out to be the standing desk Zag put together for his setup.

He bought a beautifully finished, 6-foot-long solid wood butcher block tabletop and laid it on a Topsky motorized standing desk frame.

He added casters on the bottom so he could easily roll the heavy desk around.

Zag uses three of the most popular input devices we see out there — a Magic Keyboard, a Magic Trackpad 2 and a Logitech MX Master 3S wireless mouse.

“What mouse wrist rest is that?” asked a commenter with an eye for detail.

“Just some cheap Amazon one,” Zag replied. “Got a bit of wrist pain, used a gel one before which was more comfortable, but this just looks more modern and cooler. Def nicer ones out there though.”

The other attention-getter in the setup is the sound system, powered by venerable U.S. firm Klipsch.

“What’s driving the speakers?” a commenter asked. “I’m not seeing an AVR or DAC/amp, or am I just blind?”

Here’s Zag’s reply:

All of the speakers are powered. Single cord to my OWC Thunderbolt Dock, and a USB cord from there goes to one of the Klipsch RP-51m, could also do optical or Bluetooth but wanted best latency possible. [Subwoofer] output on the speaker and cord to the sub in the corner.

Was going to get a dedicated external sound card, etc but I didn’t really need all that. And didn’t want to complicate things with amp, etc, wanted a plug and play.
